That's a cheap price for Mixmasters.
(I'm having a dig at these second hand audio companies that seem to have high priced items sitting there for years sometimes.)
I mean Mick is a good guy - and he gives great deals on new stuff - but everything on his used list is always way way over priced in my opinion.
Everyone has to make a buck - but moving stock fast is the smartest way to keep the funds rolling in.
Its the same concept as charging heaps for your labor and only getting a few jobs per year.

That's my whinge for the day.

Thanks to this forum we can use Rick's digital shopfront

Hi Chris
I agree about moving stock,overpriced, etc...but, I’m only guessing here……………maybe the philosophy behind their inflated secondhand prices is;
A buyer who doesn’t know any bettter (or care what the price is) will just buy the item anyway at the bigger price…this would usually be people with too much money and no product research skills. Unit gets sold and big profit is made.
or
Buyers who do care and know what things are really worth would know to call Mick and have some fun haggling.
If you end up with 20% off the asking price after haggling you feel like you got a good deal and they get a decent price for the item.
I think they usually give units a good service and inspection before sale, which would add to the buyers cost but also help people buy with confidence.

BTW, I’m not the haggling type…..I’d be hopeless in a Moroccan market. :-s

overpriced 2nd hand gear pushes purchasers towards buying new gear.

always keep that in mind when you see a shop that sells things 2nd hand on consignment, and the same kind of things brand new.

yeah Ben - I hate haggling too for audio gear - maybe a used car.
I would rather see realistic prices,
and I don't mind them being a bit more expensive when there is a shopfront and staff to pay, as i really understand the costs of running a business.
Since the advent of ebay, I have observed small second hand shops that used to sell stuff at realistic prices, and move a lot of stock. Then they discovered ebay, and the $ people will sometimes pay for gear, and stuff sits overpriced in the shops for so long with hardly any sales. Then they are in the predicament of needing to keep the prices high to pay for the lack of sales. Catch 22. They don't consider the fact that a lot of consumers these days do their homework on prices.
Anyway - good luck to all the second hand retailers in this situation. They need some luck.

In the defence of Mixmasters, the last time I spoke to them about having gear on consignment I was responsible for setting the price of which mixmasters would take a commission. If anything you are probably looking at overzealous private owners overpricing their gear from the get go.

That's a good point Nath. Overzealous sellers price + commission = holy crap!
