Does anyone have any old 30-pin SIMMS gathering dust that they'd like to get rid of for beer money? i can get what i need from ebay in the states but it's a little pricey and i thought i'd check here first.

this leads me to a question for the synth/sampler dudes... i've just bought a Kurzweil K2500 and I hear that it can be picky with RAM (even if the spec is correct) - any experiences there? I'm wondering if i might be better off just ordering the (supposedly) good stuff from the US and being done with it.

K2000's use 30 pin RAM SIMM's, as do early K2500's. If your K2500 has an "O" as the 7th character of it's serial number it uses 30 pin SIMM's, if the 7th character is a "Z" it uses 72 pin SIMM's.

The thing to remember with Kurzweil RAM is that you should never use composite RAM. Only use non-composite RAM. You can tell a non-composite stick because all of the IC's on the stick are identical DRAM chips. Composite sticks have odd chips along with the DRAM chips, usually a square GAL or PAL chip. Kurzweils do not like composite RAM.

The 30 pin chips should be 80ns or faster, 8 or 9 bit non parity, 5Volt, can be FPM or EDO, and must be installed in pairs.

hey steve.... in that case, got any K2500 goodies lying around? ie ROM upgrades, KDFX etc.

Call Hutchings Keyboards and ask Greg - He may still have some old K series upgrade boxed kits from when his other company was importing them.

I still have a k2500R. I can open it up and have alook... I put 32 gig in there, I remember thinking how awesome it was. Woooh, I was livin the life..

WIth 32Gb of Ram, you sure as hell are still living the life... Puts my PC with 4Gb of ram to shame lol

yeah pretty sure you meant 32 meg ;-) anyway, you should leave it in there, i probably should just get the full 128 mb in one go and be done with it.

Yes I meant meg not gig. I'm living in denial...
you can put 128 meg in it? I think when I upgraded my ram 128 meg was the price of a decent secondhand car.
