WTB: Powdered PA Speakers

Need some cheap powered (or unpowered plus amp) FoH speakers to equip a medium size church hall - tight budget is $250-$300, or any donations gratefully accepted.

Beggars cannot be choosers, but prefer horn + 12". Age and cosmetics not an issue provided they work. Practice room fidelity rather than mixing room - the hall is a horrible rectangle with glass along its 2 major axis, so sound quality will never be great and too much volume will quickly become boominess.

To give you a baseline, the hall is currently using an ancient consumer low-fi stereo as amp and some strung up mini-hi speakers! Sounds unintelligible most of the time.

For budget powered speakers it is hard to go past the QTX Sound PAJ range from DJ City in Dandenong, or from their site on eBay. They are a clone of the JBL Eon speakers (though they have standard speakers not like the JBLs which are part of the cab and almost impossible the replace) and in blind testing I found most musos couldn't pick between them or actually preferred the QTX, or actually Skytec as they were badged when I bought mine. I have been using 6 of their 15" powered bins for over 3 years in my hire PA as foldbacks and my only complaints have been the cheesy RCA connectors for the line in/out, which I replaced with standard jack sockets, and I have blown one power LED. They are well within your budget and are available in 10", 12" and 15" all with horns and powered by 200 watt, 300 watt and 400 watt, bi-amps respectively. BTW, I have no pecuniary interest in DJ City or Skytek/QTX, I just like their products. There are, no doubt, better speakers on the market, but not at the sort of price you are able to pay.
