How about building one? Use Cinemag transformers. Cheaper than Jensens, sound about the same, at least the D.I. units.

I recycled 2 old metal case DOD DI's - ripped out the shitty trannie and put some Jensens in them.
5 min's work - and they still are going nearly 10 years after.
Cost me $60 each

Great idea! I have been gutting old D.I's and dead rack gear for the connectors and cases. Saves a heap of money when building.
Cheap passive rack D.I's are perfect for upgrading the transformer and ending up with something top shelf for bugger all.
I think passive is the way to go for D.I's.

Check the Turtlerock Tech listing for someone in your area.
Jaycar or R.S. Parts or Altronics for aluminum jiffy boxes and connectors, order transformers direct from Cinemag or Jensen or other manufacturer of your choice. If built well ( and it's very easy) they will last forever and sound as good as anything commercially available, and that include mega buck, big name active jobbies.

I think I own one of those crappy Dod DI's and never use it. Might have to think about this.

Just had a look at the Radial Stereo D.I referred too above. It's not a bad price at all, if the transformers are good.
The trans are at least BIG, which IS actually better in most cases for signal transformers. They are also shielded, which the ones in most cheap passive D.I's are not.
If you can't solder, this is in fact a cost effective way to go.

Harbuch do some good DI transformers too.I have some DIs with them and some with Sennheiser transformers built in die cast boxes with earth lift switches,all passive. They sound good and are bullet proof reliable.

yep, I've got 2 stereo DI with Harbuch transformers I put together awhile ago and they sound great on lots of things. Took me about 2 hours with a drill and a soldering iron to put them in the diecast boxes with ground lift etc. Think it cost me around $100 for all new parts, if I'd scrounged then I reckon it would have been much less. Dave McCluney is currently selling loads of useful stuff on ebay including some transformers and boxes. Drop him a line and I'm sure he'd be able to help you out.

I actually don't think they're so crappy. But then I've encountered too many crappy Behringers, so my perspective may be skewed. At least the Dods have a tranny, and it doesn't saturate when you just look at it!
