Don't get me wrong the 1178 is a really good compressor. Sounds excellent on drums (overheads, for my money) and acoustic guitar.
In the last 12 months or so, 60-70% of my audio jobs have either been mastering gigs, or jobs where heaps of recalls are required so I've done them mostly in the box apart from the stereo bus. The studio I work from has a fairly luxurious compressor rack (including another 1178) so the 1178 is just not earning its keep at the moment.

Ah fair enough, one more quick question (sorry probably not the place for it) what's it like on synths?
