Probably not as "crunchy" as the s900, as they are 16bit, 44.1k. More advanced in terms of editing, FX and heaps more RAM :D

Matt,
I have an Akai S2000 sampler that I could unload. Does that help?

Hey Matt, having owned a S612. S900, S950, s1000, S1100,S3200 and an a S6000 ...I would recommend the S950.
Although, there were a lot less S950 sold, so they maybe harder to find...there were heaps of S900s.
Hope that helps.

Cheers

thanks Al, I appreciate it.. Im really looking for a 12 bit sampler

John... I actually was hoping you would be the one to have one as our taste is always on the same page haha

why 950 over 900?

what i want it for is to resample some drums etc through to get that classic crunchy 90's RandB/Hiphop sound, would others ones be even better?

thanks

Keep an eye open for

Emu emax
Ensoniq Mirage - 8 bit
Akai S700
Sequential Prophet 2000 / 2002
Plus some of the early Roland samplers..

More points for Emu SP12 / SP1200

Also, Akai MPC60

MPC60's can still be picked up cheap, especially the MK2 as it looks like a cash register. (some say)

Depending on which way the wind is blowing, a S950 may set you back more!

FYI the difference between 950 & 900 is the 950 has time stretch and a slightly higher max sample rate. (a few little other things too)

Matt.. The reason i recommend the s950 is it has more
Memory capability and software was slightly different....otherwise s900.
I just like the way the OS operates .
For real dirt ... The mirage ( my first sampler)but OS is painful( unless you like hex !)
