Does anyone know of a decent Aussie source for acoustic panelling? Preferably not super-expensive? Of the "DIY hang it on yer wall" kind... any tips appreciated!

Rick recommneds Tontine Acoustisorb 3, which you can get from Mitre 10, from inner west somewhere, Marrickville? cant remember, call the trades desk at any of em and ask for that stuff.

Oh cool, thanks... so is the idea that you buy it in rolls & cut into whatever size you need? Could you realistically cover every wall surface with this stuff or just do it as panels?

BTW it's a room in an apartment that I'm looking to treat... apologies for the newbie questions, I'm new to this acoustic treatment stuff

I've got some Polymax HD which is a bit stiffer than Acoustisorb.

Thanks for that man. While I'm thinking about this, it also occurs to me that I'm as clueless on how to treat this room as I am about the materials to use...

Are there any Sydney-based acoustics dudes who will come around & assess how best to treat a given room? I would love to spend the time researching it myself but time is a factor unfortunately, ideally I need this done sooner than later...

what exactly are you trying to achieve?

- trying to achieve: I'll be using the room for monitoring 95% of the time, with the odd vocal session here & there... the room is extremely echoey right now and listening to music is just not really doable coz it sounds so bad. I need the room deadened so it's useable for monitoring.

- budget: something up to $1000 would be my ballpark, but I'm first & foremost interested in doing the job properly.

Buddies of mine have bought Acoustisorb and mounted it in their own panels but that level of DIY is something I don't really have time for - I kinda need the room in a useable state by the 10th of March or so, so a couple of weeks is my timeframe, and DIY is definitely not my forte

I'm the one bidding on that ATM, but I won't need all of it.

tontine now also have acoustisorb ultra and supreme, which are higher density and have better absorption in that 125hz band.
There doesn't seem to be a data sheet for the 'ultra' yet and the data sheet for 'supreme' states it comes in 100mm thicknesses however the coefficients are only given for 64 mm

Polymax HD or XHD would be a good option too, I would be going for 100mm sheets if you want to treat a small room.

It looks tontine/polymax will average around $90-$100 for a 2400mmx1200mmx100mm sheet.

Building something like this with them would be pretty decent I would say for a small room:

Wow Peat thanks heaps, that PDF is amazing!! As much as I feel like I could totally nail the DIY solution though, realistically I think I'm in need of an expert to get things done in the timeframe I'm looking at...

Are there any good acoustics dudes you guys are aware of in Sydney who can come and look at a room and determine how best to treat it (how much treatment, whereabouts to place it, etc.)?

And is there anyone you guys are aware of around Sydney who will make panels to spec?

I could definitely help you out in regards to a small consult on some acoustic treatment, where are you located?

I am just waiting back on some quotes for the differing types of 100mm absorption sheets available as I am planning on building some basic broadband absorbers. Will keep you posted!
