Hi i'm looking for an audio interface with 16 ins and 16 outs with firewire or usb connection it seems theres not a lot out there so would also be interested in two 8 channel units that can be daisy chained together or if anybody has any other suggestions i would welcome the input

I use twoPresonus Firestudios, one is 1 RU and has 8 mic/line ins and 8 out, the other is half rack with 2 mic and 6 line in and I think 4 out. So thats 16 in and 12 out in a rack and a half.
I have done plenty of remote recordings with these, rock solid performance and good sound.
I used to take outboard mic pres with me, now I just use the built in ones. No complaints.

Another option is 2 x Profire 2626s - daisy chain via ADAT for 16 I/O at 44.1 or 48 or 12 I/O at 88.2 or 96.

How about a S/H RME FIreface 800....solid as a rock!!!!
You can get them for around $1000.00 these days

Related question: are the drivers for the 2626 stable? Or have people had any hardware issues? I'm considering going down this path. I've had RME stuff before and it's been solid.

I've had the 2626 for 4 years with no problems. Only quirk is that it gets ejected whenever I plug in a firewire 800 drive on the macpro 3,1.
It with the apogee AD/DA 16x for band tracking worked great.

All M-Audio firewire devices seem to use the same driver. I've used it with an ADAT Lightbridge (thanks Angus) with a Creamware converter (thanks, Myles) hanging off it. Didn't miss a beat.

Daisy chaining drives with the Lightbridge at the end of the chain (because it has only one FW port) didn't work for me. Too slow.

I had a 2626 for a couple of years running PT8 and 9 + Reaper on XP, Vista and W7 PC and Mac Lion - never caused a problem.

Also worked fine on Mac in conjunction with my DM console (h/w aggregation?). Only sold the 2626 because the DM does everything I need.

Howver, it might be worth checking if the 2626 still on the PT10/11 supported h/w list (if that matters to you)..... didn't Avid sell off M-Audio recently?

RME UFX has 12 analogue in/out (16 if you configure the 2 HPs), ADAT, AES, is both FW AND USB, has onboard recorder, Totalmix full matrix, Digicheck metering, works in standalone mode...etc, etc. Stable as all get-out

I have a Lynx Aurora 16 with LT-FW Card installed that I'm looking to sell.

Plenty of info about them out there.

The short is, 16 in 16 out line level channels. Up to 192kHz. On Lynx's AES:16 transfer standard. Or with the installed LT-FW, on Firewire. It uses DB25 connectors. It's pretty much an industry standard.

I'm not looking for a quick sale. I want $2400 for it. We can negotiate what cables you would require. I have some surplus DB25 cables that I'd be willing to throw into the deal.

If that's too much for you, that's cool.

There's also the Apollo 16 to consider. 16 line i/o and the UAD plugin dsp which I've enjoyed using very much. not sure how much they are and you will have to spend extra on the plugins but its a solid and powerful system. Well actually I'm using the apollo quad which is a little different i/o wise but essentially the same.

The Apollo 16 unfortunately has just gone up in price by $400.00. I got a great deal from Musos Corner in Newcastle for mine last week , but pity I didn't make a decision a month ago. Haven't used it yet, waiting for a Firewire card, but it's pricey compared to that Lynx interface that has been offered. I'd grab that if you already has mic pres.

It'd be more portable if you weren't using 16io all the time

I think the Aussie dollar is headed south irrespective of who forms government.

Has anybody looked at the possibility of running 2 echo audiofire 12 cards for a 24/24 rig on fw ? I too am also looking at 16 in/out ( or more ) too. Cheers. Paul.

Why not pay a little extra and get an Antelope Audio Orion?

32 in/out I/O via dsub + madi + spdif connected via usb. Super low noise/jitter/ latency specs & can also be used as a master clock. All in a 1RU too

think they go for around $3k. These units look to good to be true! Anyone had any experience with them?
