Casually looking for an Akai MPC-1000 (Preferably Black, with JJOS2XL, other stuff and things...)

Have you checked out the large LCD screen upgrade for the MPC-1000 at MPC Stuff? Kind of makes the 1000 less portable but it looks pretty interesting.....

I've seen it when doing some research, but don't really know the pros/cons of it, this would be my first MPC... Main reason for thinking about the 1000 is due to size more then anything else (apart from the 500 which I've ruled out due to limited specs)

I really like the 1000, it's a great compact size and very powerful, I was in the same boat as you however, we were using an MPC-1000 but in the end I had to buy an MPC-5000 because of a couple of extra features that I needed at the time but I am still tempted by the MPC-1000 due to it's small footprint.

JJOS XL is brilliant.

Worth every penny.

I've been very lucky and actually managed to nab one on loan for a few days from an acquaintance.

Black with standard OS; so just trying to wrap my head around some of the processes and terminology; which is all a bit different. Already found at least one thing which will drive me nuts, and thats the process around editing notes / grid edit. Clunky as. Hopefully JJOS fixes that.

Going to try and see how I can integrate with the Octatrack now... trying to wrap my head around how to deal with only 99 sequences at a time (used to a lot more on the old RS7000)

The akai OS is terrible. Utter shite.

At least upgrade to the free JJOS ..

If it was mine, would have done it by now. But I don't want to mess with the one I've borrowed.

I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on one, just trying to wrap my head around how it (or rather how I) can use it in a live context, because I'm struggling with the concept of only 99 sequences containg 64 tracks.

I'm used to the RS7000 with 64 songs, each with 16 patterns, each with 16 tracks containing a (potentially) unqiue phrase.

Guess I'm off to the MPC-Forums to research.

I haven't really, still have mine and no plans to sell. The RS7000 is an amazing midi sequencer, and absolutely awesome for live use/jamming. The internal synth engine, and sampling is a bonus, though could be better... but as a midi sequencer, awesome IMHO.

The only complaint I have about the RS7000 is the footprint/weight. If it was smaller/lighter I probably wouldn't even bother looking elsewhere.

My interest in the MPC is to perform as a midi sequencer, to use/pair with an Elektron Octatrack, as I hate the midi sequencing on the Octatrack. The fact that it can do sampling/sample playback is an added bonus.

I can't think of another bit of gear that compares to the MPC-1000 when it comes to midi sequencing, when I include various factors into the equation. (Price, Size/Weight, Midi Ports, Sampling, USB etc)
