Hi Turtlerockers,

I have a pair of recently recapped and fully serviced PYE Compressors I'm thinking of selling.
The model number is on the sticker on the back and reads 'LDM 0091/05'.
These are 'Made in Cambridge' PYE.

I'm unsure of what these are worth. Vintage King told me retail US$10k for a pair and a local dealer told me NZ$500 per unit. There's a big gap there so I'm open for a chat if people want to talk money. I'm figuring somewhere in between...

A pair sold recently on ebay (down my way actually) for 3k. I was kinda surprised that they went for that much but I guess they are nice (and rare) units

Wow, that's a really good price!
I've seen single units in the UK sell for 1,500-2k (pounds).

Someone scored a deal or perhaps these have dropped in value?
Hard to say with old gear I suppose... it's only worth what someone is prepared to pay...

hmm I dunno, they are the first pair I've seen for sale but I don't see how they would be worth much more, I mean we're not talking Pultec or Fairchild here (nice thought they are).

But you're right, prices fluctuate a lot on ebay.

That's right. These PYE's are late 60's early 70's solid state units. So not the legendary late 50's - early 60's valve compressors. I've seen Fairchilds sell for US$45k and clones for $20k but that might have been peak pricing a few years ago.

Hard to say with the PYEs. They come up so infrequently that to determine a price curve can be tricky.
They appear to have a boutique following.

I'm basing my pricing on the extremes of what it would cost to replace them and what I have been offered for them by a local dealer. Somewhere in bewteen is not neccessarily logical but a good place to start in my opinion.

Based on some of the coversations I 've had though, I may have priced myself out of the market. In which case I'll hang on to them in the mean-time. I may come to my senses later in the piece...

I'ts a narrow target market you have at that price. I have heard it said that the most likely buyers will be American basketball or baseball stars with home studios.......and money to burn. Good luck, you might make a sale.

Yes, the phrase "priced yourself out of the market" springs to mind.

Even Ebay can be hit and miss, especially if you're going to go the route of an auction.

It's really useful to get an idea of where these might sit value wise.

Yeah, I'll give TradeMe a go first and then I'll try eBay if that doesn't work out.
