FS: Chandler Little Devil EQ

Hi guys,
I bought this unit 4-5 months ago and sent it straight to Wade Goeke of Chandler for a service, as it had some gain issues (which I wasn't told about by the seller :-q ..... or they might have been deaf).
It has all been brought up to specs and sounds fantastic, but unfortunately I need some cash at the moment and after a lot of consideration I decided to let this go, as preamps and compressors are what i need the most at the moment.
It owes me $910, and I'll let it go for $800 firm + postage (shouldn't be much for this small unit).
Cheers

Hey mate...

Just a heads up about these units. The gain issue with the eq and compressor from the little devil series is a design problem straight from the factory. The current units have the issue sorted, but older units are touchy depending on what power supply is used.

When i first tried the eq many years ago now, it sounded weird and slightly distorted. I contacted Wade and he was aware of the issue. The only way i could get it to work propery was to jump start the power supply, which was an API6b. I had to hold the power button for a few seconds everytime i powered it up.

Eventually the Brent Averill power supply came along, and it worked flawlessly. I did have the option to send it to Wade for the mod to make it work in all power supplies on Wades dime, but, ya know.. I didnt...

I do wonder how many people are using these things in unsuitable power supplies. Not getting the most from the units. Just carrying on as usual....

Its a weird one, because I didnt really know if it was going to work propery or not when shuffling 500 series stuff around...
Good to see you got Wade to fix it though, so this one should be good for all..

Its an issue thats not really made terribly public, so thought i might make a community service announcment here.

Good luck with the sale. Really nice unit.(when in correct supply:)

Cheers
Dave

Hi,
I don't know about the "slightly distorted sounding". I just had a gain difference between "bypassed" and "engaged" even when no cut or boost was present. I'm not sure that this could be a Power Supply issue, but who knows..

This eq is so good that I've tried to purchase a few more from other people a few months ago, but they were honest enough to tell me that their units had the same gain difference problem and that's when I realized this must be a design flaw. At about $850-$950 people were asking for them, it just isn't worth sending to Chandler to fix (about $170 round trip). This is why I'm taking a hit on reselling price on a unit that actually works...but that's life.

This one should be all good in any lunch box. I'm sure Wade wouldn't send it back knowing it might not be ok in some boxes. Certainly sounding great in my API 6b.

Cheers

Sometimes distorted, sometimes gain issue. Was a headache...
I guess someone with a power supply that worked with it would have no idea theres an issue with it.
Im surprised Chandler made you pay for the fix. That should be on the house i reckon.. Anyways...

Totally agree its an amazing eq. Tough sounding EQ. Its one of those units that make stuff better just going through it. Might get back into 500 series stuff soon. Those CAPI VP28's have drawn me back.. Ha...

Cheers
