mickeyb's post selling his piano dollies reminded me of an issue I have with mine. They are similar to the ones mickeyb is selling, and they work wonderfully well for moving the piano. But, as he said, they raise the piano, about 40mm, more than the standard caster, which gives a problem with the pedals which are now 40mm off the floor.

Do I just have to saw 40mm off each leg or is there a better way?

No Bob, there is a much better, non surgical solution that won't leave the piano as an amputee

1: Buy 2400 x 1200 sheet of 15mm plywood.

2: Cut it in half so you have 2 pieces at 1200 x 1200mm.

3: Glue and screw the 2 pieces together.

4: Glue some 10mm rubber isolation pads to the bottom of the plywood on 200mm centres and your done.

5: Position it under piano so that the front of the board sits just under the pedals.

6: Place the piano bench/stool on top of it and your ready to go.

When your not using it under the piano it will also come in handy for decoupling a bass cab or guitar amp from the floor.

Thanks Greg, no I wasn't serious about amputating the piano legs, but I wondered what solutions people had come up with. I had thought about a block under the pedals but that still left the pedals uncomfortably high for a pianist.

Your solution sounds great and, in fact, I have some suitable timber laying around.
