ok, our new place is in the final design stages.

all dimensions are rough just to give an example
we are building, 4 dedicated rehearsal rooms 4.5x5.5x3.4m, 1 rehearsal/second live room 4.5x5.5x3.4m, 1 second control room/rehearsal/live room 4.5x5.5x3.4m(depends on who wants to rent it) a dedicated control room 7x6x3.4m and a dedicated live room 10x8x5.5m.

i know the sizes are not "golden dimensions" but we needed to change almost everything to make it all fit.

as well as fitting out a 2 story shop and moving the whole production company........not much really....

what i im interested in is, what would you like to see/what would you do/not do if you had another go at building your complex.

i am after your ideas in stuff like, mirrors for rehearsals, under floor cable trays, communications (between rooms), mixers for rehearsals, cable tricks in the studio, etc..

anything you wish to offer would be great...

Rick, why not just put your studio ON a marlin boat? Duntechs would be good ballast.
Damien, one thing I wish we'd done was stereo tie lines between all the rooms. We have all our systems networked but it would be a lot quicker for me to just patch into a tie to send stuff to another room most times, instead of recording it into my system and then dropping a file on the network server. If you've got the space, for the recording stuff a dedicated communal machine room to house all the hot/noisy gear and drives etc is a great thing to have also.
Something I would change here - my mix room opens into the kitchen, which is great when you want a beer, but when I'm not mixing and the door is open all I can hear is the studio chicks constantly yammering on about their boyfriends or the lemon detox diet etc... I have put a sign outside saying "Andy can hear you" but to no relief. So, I would move the kitchen if we did it again.

even a 65 foot hatrice/ blackwatch would not be big enough my my studio
have even been on a marlin boat, they are only good for fishing and drinking
and too noisy for a studio :)

Nah, what Rick needs is this boat, comes complete with escape routes for when the bank manager comes knocking.

yeah the ceiling is still to low , you need one like the queen mary with an unused ballroom to get the right height for a rocking at sea studio
