I am going to build myself some baffles and I am wondering things to consider,

I would like them to be movable

being thick is not a problem

what would be the best stuff to fill the baffles with,

do people know of any designs that are tried and true?

I built something along these lines, though I used timber framing instead of the steel he's used.

I used 3" rockwool (soundstop). All up it cost me around $200. So far I use them to make kind of a dead corner in my spare room but will eventually make more to do the other corners.

Hi Guys, we've been using Tontine rather than rockwall or fibreglass based products for our absorbers and baffles in production and on-air studios. Structural pine frames then a nice covering to suit the decor
Great advantage -No-Itch- when handling and it performs very well.

I was going to use tontine but it's much dearer than rockwool or fibreglass. All the handling required to build the baffles was dropping them into the frames.

nah tontine is about the same price as rock wool
and much more fun

I meant movable baffles, bout 7 ft tall, x6ft, by 1 ft deep.

or maybe a board with a heap of auralex foam squares

I am thinking of 3 or 4 , kinda make a vocal booth, or really deaden the sound source. just movable......... and open the creative process... for some reamping make a tunnel and place 2 ribbons and get a "cannon" effect, or just experiment.....

maybe get a board that has auralex on one side, and the other side has like a diffuser.....

Well, mine aren't that big, but they are not mounted to anything either.. I take them to control spill when I do live demos, box quads in them when I do guitars etc.

They're convenient at this size as they don't need any bracing and they fit in the back of a hatchback. However, I'm thinking of doing some larger ones to make a collapsible vocal booth as you suggested.

I don't think a foot thick would be all that much better than 3 or 4 inches, the weakest point will then be joins etc. Airtight joins = not portable any more.

Either way, have a good read at some of the sites listed by TimS before you spend money.
