Mounting a 2N3055

Postby Ben M » Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:21 pm

Does anyone know when installing 2N3055's you need to have an insulating kit? Like mica or silicon washers and plastic insulators. Or can you not?
I'd like to mount the transistor straight through the heatsink, bolt it down then solder onto my PCB. Anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Since the case is connected to Collector it's going to have volts on it. Best sticking a silicon insulating kit in to be safe. if the transistor is accessable from outside the equipment you might want to put a plastic cover on the transistor to protect both the equipment and anything that might accidentally come in contact with it.
