Im after something like this. By Large I mean, many pins. I want to have my Multicore detachable from my racked patchbay.
I know Ive seen these before but I dont know what to look for on part suppliers websites.
Something that has at least 60 connections and can fit onto a 20way canare multicore.
Does this make sense?
Any help would be much apreciated!

start your www search engine and be prepared for a shock when you get to the price :)

RS and farnell have them, pretty pricey

i could be mistaken... but you used to be able to get two types of elco - the full metal version, and a cheaper, plastic one. not sure how sturdy it was or if it's still available.

.....there are many types of elco now made by edac connectors. I had to get 15 female connectors for the refurb of my optro 7500 chanel strips, by memory, 30 gold pin in a green plastic $15 each. The company is in Canada and they have a Oz distributor who didn't have any of the oner i needed. Canada shipped an Edac sample for free to make sure it was a good fit with my old elco then on confirmation shipped the rest. Took a bit of hunting the net but was worthwile.

Pardon my ignorance, but alot of these look like panel mount connectors.
I didnt mention before but Im after something cable mount...
Is this kind of connector around? something essentially like a massive 60+ pin XLR connector.

Actually I see some on RS that list as cable mount, but they still look like rectangular panel mount connectors...
They have a giant screw going into them, Im having trouble visualising a cable coming into that aswell...

also another possibly stupid question...
Will I even need 60 pins for 20 balanced lines?
Ie. Can I have one or more common grounds for them or do i need to wire up all 20 grounds to their own pins?

not to mention the price of the crimp tool to properly crimp the pins with.

still, doin a edac is a much nicer way of terminating a 48 pos jackfield than soldering to each friggen socket one at a time.

I recently chucked out an old Jands multicore that had multipin conectors so that it could have a section removed (or other sections added I guess). Shame you didn't ask a couple of months ago!

Yes, you'll need 60 connections for 20 balanced lines.
The RS EDACs you're looking at are line connecors: the screw in the back is for securing to the mating panel connector which is the other half.
What's your idea of the 'rear panel end' on your rack?

Hmmm... Can't you have pin 1 (the shield) as a common???

Im not planning on having a panel on the back of my rack just to mount this one connector.
My idea was to have a short but loose 20way sitting in the back that I could attach to the rest of the multicore when I set up.
This is for a portable set up and my 20way canare snake is too big to fit nicely in the back of my new 8RU racks.
Im kinda looking for something solderable too. Do you think Jands would stock something like this?

I found Van Damme and Ramtech CPC connectors which are what I want but goddamn! they are expensive!
may as well just buy 20 XLRs and plug em all in each time.
