I'm about to start a rewire of our video facility.

Well partial rewire anyway, we have system intergrators doing 90% of the work, and I have about another 60 or so cables to make, to re-patch some of our existing equipment. The old cable had been sporadically working, and wasn't labelled, so I made the call to rip everything out and start again.

We had a BNC crimper, but it was of the generic variety, and wasn't spectacular.

I am now the proud owner of a rather expensive Paladin Crimper that was designed specifically for the exact brand of BNC connectors that we are using, which were supplied for the exact brand of cable that we are using.

I'm also the proud owner of a Trompeter crimper, that crimps the centre pin of the same connectors.
It is the exact right tool for the job, and for those who are always going on about this, I say thanks.

Sometimes budget restraints lead me to trying to do a job without the right tools and I end up with a half baked job and thinking I'm a lousy worker. (Especially when i try and fix my car)
For some jobs the cost of the right tools is way more than the "part timer" can afford......that's when you pay the high dollar to get the fully kitted out and experienced tradie to do the job.............now if that worked for the recording biz then many of us here should be getting a lot more work.
I heard a great young live band on the weekend and bought their newly recorded EP. Drums were done at a well regarded local studio and the rest recorded, produced and mixed by a relative newcomer to the game......a muso from a band who had a bit of success on the JJJ's. Anyhow the recording was done to a click, the band sounded stifled and lame in comparison to their live show, tentative playing etc and the sounds were all just a bit wrong. Cost the band over $5000, a thousand bucks a song........ I just felt sorry for them, and of course, I'm putting my hat in the ring to record their next CD.

Sounds horrible and screws things up?

I think Rick means "Pro Tool'.

Thank god avid doesn't make power tools. If they did, you'd only be able to use avid screws and avid plasterboard (fixed with avid glue).

Luckily for us, the new powertool version 9 allows you to work on more than 1 job at a time - unlike the old powertool LE ... but you have to pay for the upgrade.
