racking modules

For my first diy project, I want to rack up 4 channels of an old Ta@#$% m35 mixer I have. I'm planning on taking the electronics off the channel strips and only using the eq and pre amp and baypasing everything else on the strip, then mounting them and the VU meters in a case with the original power supply, whilst adding phantom power to each channel. Are there any easy mods to make these sound a bit better, or any advice/ pointers before I embark on this journey?

does anyone know where to get a 4Ru case? Alltronics only has up to 3

Looks like there are already 8 channels neatly racked up in that case

It's neat and tidy, has all support electronics built in, why trash it at all?

Kinda agree with Kurt.
It will cost you a bunch to re-rack for little or no gain.

Maybe just add direct outs if you want them individually.

thats what i thought form the start but I dont really have room for it, and was looking for a simple first DIY project that I wouldn't be to devastated if I screwed it all up, before I move on to something more complicated

There are probably simpler first DIY projects than racking up the modules than that console though...
