Re: Samplitude
I don't have any experience with Samplitude, but have worked on PCs for ever.
The stability problems of PCs are nothing like it used to be (esp if you get the right advice). If you have access to a PC (or bootcamp) then try the demo. You might find you can work with a bootcamp solution, or just have to bite the bullet and by a PC - you will save more than the cost of the software if you build a PC rather than buy a Mac Pro. Guess it would suck a bit more if you have mac only audio hardware.
I am about to update to a 6core/x79 system and may be eating my words in a few weeks
Cheers

I went through exactly the same thought process 10 years ago - "I'm a mac guy through and through, I hate PCs, so I can't do Samplitude" (or in my case Sequoia, same thing essentially).
But I downloaded the demo onto an old laptop and was sold. I bought a brand new PC just to run Sequoia. It cost about an 8th of the price of the software. There is nothing else installed on that machine. I've never connected it to the internet. I've never updated it.
The PC becomes transparent, like a big dongle... when I use it, I'm working on the Sequoia/Samplitude machine, not a computer.
Works for me anyway.

Re: Samplitude
Oh and for a laugh I recently installed it on the Boot Camp partition of my MacBook Pro. Never used it on a job but seems to work like a charm.

Re: Samplitude
I have been using Samplitude since version 1. Apart from some annoying GUI changes along the way, it has been "ahead of the game" with respect to sonic transparency, performance and use ability. It was running 24bit fp

Re: Samplitude
I really like the object oriented interface in Samplitude, and the integration of recording / mixing / mastering functions - a much more elegant solution than (e.g. PT and Wavelab that I currently use).
re the Win (PC) vs Mac thing - I'm a long term Win user (25+ years from the days of DOS to current) and was dragged kicking and screaming back to using a Mac just because of non-compatibility issues between my console and PCs..... but that's the topic of another thread......
