Hi all,

this is an invitation to the Theatre show I'm currently working on. It's called Miracle and is being staged by BalletLab, an internationally focused local contemporary dance company. We did our first stage of development in the new Experimental Media and Performing Arts Centre in Troy, New York last year and we'll be presenting the premier from the 15th of July until the 19th.

The main reason I'm listing this here is I'm quite proud of the composition and sound art that is a major feature of the work. I am co-composing with David Chilsholm who has won consecutive Green Room awards for his work with BalletLab. We are creating an all-enveloping score featuring a 6.0 hexagonal horizontal array, another channel above and another below the audience and a third channel centre stage which is swinging . Live processing with radio mics, suspended mics, and flown mics which capture the sounds made by the performers, effected, processed and re-presented to merge with the acoustic sounds. The system is based around a nexo system.

The score has been created by recording original acoustic compositions in multichannel with ambisonics and then sampled, layered, processed and new works created. The recordings took place in NY in the EMPAC concert hall. The compositions were deconstructed during the recording process that we might capture isolated samples, phrases and textures with out resorting to eq and other devices to collect the samples we needed. There has been extensive sampling of the dancers as well and this forms a major part of the score too.

I don't know of any similar work being done locally either in the creation of sound or in the presentation of sound and if I wasn't involved in the creation it would be a show I was fascinated by. Its a very confronting show focusing on cults and the manipulation of people through a religious medium. Please dont read that as 'religious bashing' though as this is a seperate thing to deep personal beliefs but rather a form of manipulation through the abuse of power and trust.

Anyway if you're intrigued and interested please go to balletlab.com for more info about shows.

Cheers
Myles
