Late 70's footage of recording at Armstrongs, Auditronics

Postby Chinagraf » Wed Mar 03, 2010 11:35 am

A friend of mine was in this band (Sam See) and sent me this link. It's from 1979 at Armstrongs which is where I started, but 10 years before me. In the opening in one of my mentors and an awesome engineer, Ross Cockle sitting at the board. I have a feeling this may be the console that some of those auditronic modules people around here have came from. Also, check out the moustaches, this was way before Movember, these ones are for real..

I love how they all huddle around the console like its a campfire, listening to those old camp fire stories.....

ernie sold that board to mark moffatt in the eighties , it sat in "vault" in balmain for years and i use it quite a bit , thats where my love of auditronics comes from , clunky but really musical
mark punch who has recorded in just about everyplace and with everybody you can imagine still tells me the vaults board was the best sounding board for guitar music he has ever heard.

james cadsky got the vault and the board in the ninties and racked up the consoles (mark joined two together) into big racks

there was another one that was at sun studios that went to joe camilleri all racked up, but i guess by the amount of modules we see around there must have been heap more .

we have a more modern but same circuits version of that desk sitting in the foyer waiting to be installed in the new place in steves room

great video for gear hunters to mull over ... fet 47s anybody !

I worked at Sun between 1991-1997 (with a couple of years OS) and we had a rack of 16 Auditronics 501's which I used all the time. I used them alot on drums and guitars with great results. Thanks for the happy reminder.
