Hate to be a party pooper or forum police out of place, but is advertising your business in the for sale forum Kosher?

I would not call what I am doing a business....

it's more of an extreme interest and hobby for me ...... I am not getting rich or making a living from this that's for sure and as far as advertising ones business goes.. we all do it eg.

Sure, I get your point about my signature... but certainly wouldn't start a thread in the for sale forum about my wares.
Anyway, you should put your services in the new tech directory forum?

I think you should both post what you are doing/selling.
its a small community of like minded people who should support each other - business or hobby.
If it was Billy Hydes - maybe not so cool - but you guys are both doing a good service, making/modding stuff we use and need - why not sell your wares here.
Many other businesses do it EG: Rob/Proharmonic - people racking/modding gear and on selling, posting it here. Its all good.
Mark may become a famous mic builder/designer in the future - who knows. Nick's ideas may become a huge hit too.
You guys rock - keep doin it!

Maybe. I'm concious of being a pushy, salesy forum type. I think my little ad in the tech directory is sufficient for this forum
Anyways. I was not trying to be negative towards openplanrecording and I wish him all the best in his business. I've just seen what too many sales pitch posts can do to a forum. I think we all agree we have a good thing going with this board, and we'd like to maintain the vibe, yeah?

Nick - I think a little bit of marketing is a good thing - i had a look at your stuff for the first time today (because of this post) and was amazed at what you do and the quality of the work.
If I had known 4 weeks ago when I ordered my Coleman M3ph monitor switcher, I would have much preferred using your services.
Marketing can be done in a cool way like " Hi guys - just made this custom dooda for X - check it out, if you want one I can make it to your custom spec's" type of post.
When I started BJB I hated marketing and refused to be in the phone book, the Aus Music directory, No ads nothing. If you wanted to record there you had to know someone who had my ph number. I did this for about 7 years - even recording the (current) Portishead album this way - they had to find me.
It worked well - but then I decided to expand and add a mix room and edit room. At that point I decided it was time to stop the anti marketing and let everyone know about the studio and what happens there (really a smart survival mechanism when you borrow 1/4 mill to build and buy the gear).
I hate pushy marketing more than any-one - but people need to be guided to what you do somehow - and a link in your signature is just not enough to entice busy people to your website in this day and age.
