Just thought you DropBox users out there might like to know that since the DB server was compromised recently by those little A**holes running rampant on the interwebs lately there is a possibility that your account may fall into the category mentioned in this recent post on pastebin.com
http://pastebin.com/yBKwDY6TMy account seems to be still ok with only my PW working. Just thought I'd let you all know.

Currently looking for an alternative to drop-box, not entirely comfortable with their TOS and have been finding uploads / syncing very slow – anyone have any hot tips?

One option is to use something like secure zip or stuffit to archive your files before sharing, using a long and complex password/phrase. Exchange the password via a seperate mode of communication like sms/instant messaging or a bit of paper.
Stuffit looks to be a better option if you are sharing closs platform.
That way even if someone does manage to get hold of your archive, the song will be on the radio before it has been cracked.
Cheers
