This absolutely made my day. Looking into building a mic robot now. Absolutely perfect for me.

And I thought today was going to be horrifyingly unproductive!

EDIT: What kind of engineer am I looking for to build me something like that? Mechanical? I don't even know!

Yeah Eric has got some good ideas going on and his UTA gear is highly anticipated.

Anthony, I would be suggesting a robotics engineer. Could be costly to build?? Then again you could sell the eq you use on guitars seeing you wouldn't be needing them anymore:) haha
Not sure why he's mounted it on that dodgy piece of plywood? It seems to be warped and ready to rock from side to side.
There should be plenty of mining companies over your way Anthony that use robotic engineers to design machines to do similar things down mines. Maybe that's a good start?

but what is being called a drum robot is something that im pretty sure could be copied using slow RC tech...
(preferably electric as im sure no one wants petrol in their studio.

Put a mic stand or modified mic stand on a modified RC vehicle...and u could prob have the same thing as what you're seeing here....

get one of these...or idealy something that does proper 4 way steering...and limit the draw from the battery or power source to allow for slower movement (altho this may occur from the weight placed on the vehicle)

this is probably a very bad idea that will completely fk up any RC vehicles

Yeah, I'm thinking people that often work with mining companies will probably either need to charge a heck of a lot to make it worthwhile, or not even bother. It looks like it could be pretty simple, 3 motors, and simply when you flick a switch you close a circuit which delivers power to the motor. An RC car would probably be more complex. The annoying/hard part would probably be putting together mechanisms that are smooth/easy enough to drive and reliable.

I'm kinda hoping some engineering student will find it an interesting little project for fun and cash.

robo mic isnt exactly new
there was a product and probably still is around ... launched in the eighties
i thought it was great ..." mic mount" or something like that
from time to time i see one and remind myself what a good idea it is

but certainly with all the cheap rc stuff around you could build one for next to nothing
but you probably dont want the rf from the remote part floating around your guitar amp ?

His was wired. It looked like it used an XLR. I probably would too, so I could patch it in at other studios as well.

Motors would be very different from the servos used to steer RC cars/planes, but more like the ones that drive them.

With the robot mic- I think ultimately an assistant would be better playing the robots role. Robot mic can't go out and get a sandwich and coffee.
Drumbrella is very cool. I like the way it looks like a normal umbrella size on camera... but then EV sits at the drum kit and all of a sudden it's massive.
Very useful drum tool me thinks.
Reminds me of the cone of silence as well.
