I am going to restart a rumour that I started last
Year but it didn't take hold

You cannot trap sound , it is too sneaky
You can only slow it down for a while and give
It something else to do .
There is a place for traps but not in every room
Or in fact most rooms

I just fixed and tuned a couple of rooms for a big tv place
They sound great
One of the younger engineers said
But where are all the bass traps ?

I told him on the Internet

Porous absorption placed in the corners essentially flush with the walls - that's not going to 'trap' stop or inconvenience low frequency energy to any useful degree.

This article is, while self-admittedly non-scientific, also full of half-truths, old wives tales and straight up misinformation regarding the behaviour of sound and basic acoustic principals.

Standing waves can vary, but are usually midrange in nature

I did a consult today for a very typical home bedroom studio, it had two prominent standing waves, one at 35Hz, the other at 127Hz.

A room that has four 90-degree corners and is nearly or perfectly square is destined to suffer from standing waves and resonant modes.

Entirely dependent on what the walls are made of. Such a room may suffer very little coloration or a significant amount. A room without 90-degree corners (parallel walls) still has standing waves.

The walls are carpeted with grey marine carpet, which keeps reflections to a minimum.

Kills high frequency energy, guaranteed to get you well on the way to a dull, boomy room, or as the author put it, a 'spectacular acoustic environment'.

Approach with caution.

just reality links adam i am afraid

i am so far ahead of myself i havent found a link for it
but its real .. I prove it often

bass build up is by nature determined by the actual walls and the materials they are made of
most walls we see in most structures pretending to be sound rooms are virtually invisable to real bass
and standing waves we actually hear and detect
dont need to be trapped they need to be moved

well mostly .. with caviets .. you get the idea
