Haha excellent!
While not a $100 billion dollar space station, it reminds me of a trip I took with my mates down the coast in a Datsun 120Y. It ended in a snapped accelerator cable at 2am in the morning on the F6. After a bit of kicking and screaming, a few jokes about how we were all going to get raped, and a nice truck driver stopping to help only to declare "you guys are pretty f&%ked... "... we repaired it with a shoe lace.
The only problem was, the accelerator lever in the engine pulled the opposite direction to the driver. The front seat passenger ended up doing the accelerating by hanging out the passenger side window and pulling the shoelace. The driver did the gear changes, braking and steering. It was all syncronised by the driver shouting "Change!"... the clutch would go in, the passenger would drop the revs, the driver shifts gears, the passenger plies on the accelerator and and driver lets off the clutch...
It was quite hilarious to watch. 3 weeks later the muffler vanished and it sounded like a V8 super car. Not long after that is went to the wreckers after almost self-combusting on a short trip through Caringbah. You would get out of the car smelling like fuel. You would have to wear thongs after it rained because of all the pooled water on the floor. Still, it was worth the $550 the car cost just for the memories alone!
