Posted: Thu Nov 27, 2008 7:58 pmI have been getting in several FX pedals for repair made by a company that has made great analog pedals for decades, but now their pedals look similar, but are boxes of DSP's, and the whole pedal runs on 5V. I look at them and think that for all the money they cost, there is no support for repairing them, and they just become junk once they break, and they are not cheap either. I had another pedal in from another company, and I had to hand it back still not working, because all of the knobs were glued on, so to open it for service would require a combination of unsoldering 5 pots and rotary switches from the back of the circuit board, and breaking a large detented rotary encoder.
It is ironic that it is much easier to source parts for 25 year old synths and FX, and can be impossible to fix a lot of devices made in the last 10 years. You can find pretty much every electronic component in a Minimoog at Jaycar (or a reasonable substitute) apart from maybe tempco resistors and a couple of FET's.
