Hi guys n girls,

i'm doing a little re-mixing of some stuff i recorded a while back at college, i have purchased a few new plugins so i figured i would see how i fared using these vs the standard PT plugs.
Just wanted some input on a bounce that i have done this morning, i'm finding that when i compress i'm really bringing the groundloop of the two guitar amps out. its drving me nuts. any tips or comments?

i have compressed all of the tracks, all tracks are routed through a reverb buss then through a slight limiter.

For a quick solution, don't compress...:)
Ok seriously .... it depends how you are using compression. Is it just the comp on the overall mix or on the problem guitar tracks as well . Obviously for starters take off the comps if you have them on the guit tracks. Secondly rout the full mix minus the problem tracks through a stereo sub group buss and do your buss compression there, then into the master outs where the uncompressed guitars will be. That way the noise floor of the guitar tracks won't be increased by the stereo mix buss compression you are applying to the mix. If you need any dynamic control on the guitars then use automated fader moves.
Another possible fix is the ground loop hum is usually 50 Htz so a narrow notch cut can help.

The compression was just a problem on the guitar tracks, although i found when i messed with the mixbus comp without comp on the problem tracks it would still be there albeit not as present.

Your tip of using a subgroup worked great, the loop[ is still there but itsa nowhere as "in your face" as it was so thanks for that handy tip.

if you have a recorded section of ground loop but no guitar, loop it in PT and accurately align it with the guitar track, then phase reverse it

notching it at 50Hz might work, but any harmonic components of the ground loop buzz are still going to get by.
