I own no outboard gear and only use modular synths, improv / avant, transients and space(silence), usually singular STEREO sounds no overdubs etc
I am just about to buy a Thermionic Rooster because I love the sound it gives and was going to buy a FATSO Jr, never used one, but like the idea of tape saturation/ compression....As I was just about to purchase it struck me that maybe the combo isnt the best because from what i read about the FATSO Jr it will take away what I am adding with the Rooster...Is that correct?
AM I wasting my money on the FATSO Jr?
What should I get if the FATSO is not right?
Thanks

I'd ditch the fatso, tape emulation is usually a waste of time in my opinion unless you're using a real tape machine. As I keep saying, with digital it's not the medium that sux it's the processing that sux. If you like the sound of the rooster I'd get it, looks like it would make a nice front end. It's expensive enough to make a good one, heh.
As for something to pair it with I dunno, if you want compression I'd look into an api2500, they are great for tracking, one of the most versatile comps available.

What converters are you using? With this nice analog gear you're buying you will more than likely want some good ones, apogee or mytek or similar.

Hav'nt used one, should be, what DAW are you running, make sure it's compatible, I think new apogee firewire stuff only supports mac, which is a stupid business decision IMO.

Let me get this right... People are suggesting you spend a shitload of money on boxes that create audible distortion... Then even more money on a box to reduce in-audible distortion.
Makes heaps of sense to me.

C'mon Kurt being a metal head you must agree that capturing your distortion in the best possible way is the objective. Who ya wanna sound like, the Rolling Stones or Anthrax? :)
Everytime I've upgraded converters I've got my $$$$ worth.
