Hi guys,

I know these questions are getting simpler and simpler : )

What is the best way to burn an audio CD for playback. If I'm doing the mastering myself (I use that term mastering very loosely).

I currently (bite knuckle) use iTunes to burn my CD's. Is there a better application than that?

wavelab does shizz like that i think?

i'd guess the audio quality is all the same...dependant on the audio u have to burn and the burner you have....but the main differences in programs would be the ability to customize PQ points n stuff like that....

i dont do any stuff like that, so thats about as far as my chiming will go.

Thanks for Chiming Jamil! Yeah I guess the main concern is the loudness. I know iTunes has an option when you burn to "level it' or something. I don't currently use it.

that is normalisation, u probably dont wanna use that.

the loudness u will get is dependant on how loud u master it (not burn it)

from what i understand anyway....

Yeah I figured anything that iTunes does to it, is probably not good. Hence why I leave it off.

BTW, I'm slowly digesting your album. Man there's a lot to it. Some of the ambience and textures are just crazy! A lot of songs sound like soundtracks. Which is totally cool.

I could easily see them bring in the title of the movie and a long introduction before first dialog. (The Sleep of Reason as an example) Beautiful accoustic guitar textures!

Mind bending stuff! lol!

How long did it take to write/produce. Did you write ahead, or write while producing? Man it's complicated and obviously ultra-progressive.

way to go hijacking your own thread, lol.

umm...2 years or so....of work....wrote the songs, ie. guitar riffs and drums in about 6 months, all the extra orchestration during that time and before....the ambient tracks and experimental ones where wirtten first by myself then the band adding their shit to it....

the mixing, and recording took the bulk of the time...f@#$ i never wanna do anything this stupid again, in the next decade, unless someone's paying me ridiculous amounts of money to do it.

oh, and after recording the instrumentals, i taught myself how to sing, just good enough so i could track vocals :P

That makes sense man. Listening to it, sounds like it was a massive project. It must be great to have finally completed it!

jeez i had to audition in my best clothes for jamil - just to be able to master it :)

everybody should be that "into" their project .
there would be less music in the world , much less
but maybe that it would be a better place to be

My computer only barely handled it, was on 98%CPU constantly. Actually was Jamils record which makes me want a decent smallish format mixer, man it took forever to run all those stems out through my rack gear.

If I had one of those SSL matrix mixers we could have done it in half the time with the matrix patchbay.

Jamil never saw me sitting around in just my undies early morning eq'ing and comping the drums to make them nice and phat. :)

Ooooops!

Jamil drank beer while I smoked, I think that helped too. Was just that type of record. Heworked me like a slave, Imshi !!! imshi !!! he kept saying. :)
