orrite, dummy question...

i've been writing a lot of music in Native Instruments Massive synth, and there's a nifty feedback control on there, when turned, really makes the bass phat.

just wondering if this is a technique you can use on a live mixer to the same effect?? or instead of getting awesome bass, you'd just get screetching feedback??

if that's not possible, would you be able to get like a feedback matrix which could do it?

The feedback trick on old synths is to route the output, back through the synth's external input (Often, via it's filter).. people being doing that for years on their minimoog. = Extra chunky sounding. (I'm guessing this is sort of what the NA synth is doing)

I don't think it'll work so well for a live mix.. yep, you'll get nasty feedback or wierd resonances / peaks that'll sound stoopid.

If you want awesome bass, get an old aphex enhancer.. the one with "Big bottom" and "Girth" controls (No joke)

You can pick these up kinda cheap on the S/H market.

Aren't the aphex boxes just a parallel compressor with an eq in the chain before the comp?

I have an Aphex Compellor... I don't know what the hell it does but when I put a stereo group of guitars through it they come out way better on the other side!

The effect i suspect you are hearing is how this box excites the highs in a subtle way by clamping down the rest of the spectrum via its compression action. In the way back days....not so long ago......It was one of the go to boxes on a paralell mix bus to give the mix a lift.
