.......yes, it's a little prompt screen so the singer doesn't forget the words. There is also a mini cam embedded on the front for a closeup of the singers nostrils and tonsils.

I think it's an automatic microphone mute, like an Optogate (but doesn't look like that product). It works with an infrared emitter and sensor. When the singer is within a certain distance of the light's axis, it reflects and unmutes the mic.
Or maybe I'm dreaming!
