You're right about the cheap toys though. My little guy loves balloons now. So for a buck we got a packet of 100 and he's happy as.

my kid will walk pass every toy he owns if there is a bucket half full of water lying around
he thinks its his job to pick it up and pour it over himself every time - never fail

there is one bucket that lives out on our back deck ( to wash the wild parrot mess away before we use the bbq, and of course its been raining now for 9 months so every time he gets out there there always seems to be water in the damn thing and he is soaking in mintues .... hang on a minute why am i explaining mself to you.. ! your not my wife ..

i mean sure i leave buckets lying around it makes things sound :)

When I lived in the outback, I had a caravan I lived in for about 3 years with an awning over the top.

I had lots of jars and tins arranged so that the rain coming off the tin roof would stream into the vessels
and play music that sort of sounded like "doip ping dip ting bop" and it would just carry on like that as they got full.
It was actually quite a nice set of sounds and it took ages to "tune" them just right!
