New Mic - They're Finally Here -
Moderators: rick, Mark Bassett
Tim,
No movement on the GB gear yet, like so many others, I'm still seeing the red "NO's".
The main catch with running an Aust., specific GB is the likelyhood that we would not have sufficient numbers to make it viable..........I haven't ruled out the idea but it is dependant on info I receive from o/seas.

I have been in contact with the makers of this item and as yet they are unable to supply full operational spec,s. It may be possible that they dont wish to do this for some reason. I know I will not be placing an order until I can have a clear understanding of what is on offer for $5k aud. Norm

I know what you mean. It certainly is a leap of faith. I'm basing my purchase on their reputation alone.

its interesting to me the point about their reputation , having dealt with one of them professionally and worked on his masters several times and having seen the others build quality in the flesh , i understand completely what is going on here , but i amazed at the leap of faith the internet can create.
what is it you are buying ? some kind of magic that is not currently available on tried and true designs ..?
i think you are buying into a dream , nothing wrong with that... we are all dreamers !
but only three prototypes before they hit on a legendary mic ...?
it must be something for sure :)

Sure, however the components are first class. The capsule from MBHO is the same as in my Soundelux Elux251. The circuitry and transformers from Tab Funkenwork are rated very highly. I also never heard a 1073 until I bought some. I also bought an API rig on reputation. How much of anything do we buy because someone recommended or we dreamed of owning it. Seems like a good topic for your next AT...
Also, when I compared the comparable mic, BOCK251, It's $9000AUD which is $4000 more expensive at current exchange rate. $3490USD. If it's anywhere near the ELUX I'll be happy.

peter i am on your side here i have bought every thing i own because i wanted it and usually irrationally so
and i have learnt a hell of a lot the hard way with my hard earned wasted on crap
a one cent drop of bad solder can ruin a $10,000 box as easily as a drop of water in a bag of flour
what i have been side stepping around here is the not the "quality " of the individual components that seems assured
but the actually build quality, sound quality and QC of products (master tapes and audio products ) that the principles of the companyhave created in the past that i have personally seen and been involved with and perhaps they were not quite the first class job the internet has you buying on faith :)
the thing is i think both guys are the real deal , passion driven dreamers so maybe this project will raise each others standards to a point beyond question and well worthy of your hard earned !
now thats the dream , and if all your ducks line up you will have yourself something indeed
fingers crossed :)
i will wait and see yours me thinks

Cool, Thanks for the heads up. I'm well committed now. I'll be sure to bring it over for your personal evaluation.
Whilst these principles may be using their reputation to sell these products over the internet, I'm certain that if these products aren't satisfactory, the internet can just as easily diminish those same reputations.

The warranty is pretty solid
Five years, no questions asked on the Microphone electronics.
Warranty is transferable.
Capsule is warranted for one year.
Parts and labour are free; Customer pays for shipping both ways.
We guarantee that we will stock all replacement parts for ten years.
We will maintain a lifetime supply of LMG-95-ES tubes in stock.
Both Terry and Oliver will maintain Warranty Loaner units, to be shipped to Customer if needed during repair period.
Beat that.

Yeah they don't sound pretty at all, the ones I've heard anyway and they're pretty bloody expensive.

In looking at the pictures on their site, there are a few funky parts there that are questionable. Ceramic Cap on the tube socket as a plate shunt is a really cheap and fast way to fix up a nasty top end, the circuit appears to be a cathode follower design IMO not a great mic circuit and the output Coupling capacitor must have cost a whole buck.
I am not saying this as sour grapes or anything, just wouldn't jump in pay 3500usd for it without first putting it through it's paces.
In saying that though, the capsule does look nice.
Just an observation.
Cheers

Gee Ben, It must be crap then. I was under the impression it wasn't the look but the sound that determined a great mic. I'm yet to see the schematic and I'll reserve my judgement until I hear it.

Gee Peter, if i was talking about looks then your comment would be bonified, but i am talking about componentry!! As far as looks go, i think the uglier the mic the better! After re-reading my post, i struggle to see how you could think that i was talking about looks, i even stated that the capsule LOOKEd NICE. btw, you won't need a schematic to know what the circuit is.

Peter, don't get me wrong, i am not rying to rain on the parade. I sincerely hope that you love the tone of the mic once it arrives, in saying that however, i would love to meet up with you once you get it and do a shootout against a few of my mics. Just curious..
Sorry if i came on strong, just hope you get what you payed for. thanks

Hi Ben, This is the response by Oliver Archut to your questions
The looks reference in my post was about the capsule. I was confused how you could make a judgement on how it looks good though.
I apologise if my post was cranky. Just a little pissed you questioned my purchase on a public forum. Especially considering your an oposition Mic manufacturer.
When the CS-1 arrives i'll happily organise a listening session with nIC and you'll be more than welcome to attend.
Ben, please add your signature to your posts. The forum rules have changed and this is now compulsory.

Looks can be deceiving, it is seems that the guy did not look close what that part is used for, or he has no clue what he is talking about, I do not know and I do not really care.
It is quite funny that this ceramic cap is not even in the audio circuit, it does nothing else than shorting the center tap of the tube filament to ground; we using the tube in dual mode with 12.6V instead of the normal 6.3V operation, in that case the centertap/ground needs to see a 0V reference that it does not act as an HF detector circuit, normaly resulting in a (radio)signal cross talk filament to cathode sleeve that drags down the audio signal. For that application ceramic caps are still work best.
The x-former coupling cap is just right out of the Mouser catalog, like most of the other resistor and caps, I think it is $1.57 and for what it was chosen, it does the job better than any other cap we tried. As I pointed out before, we put the money were it matters and the end result is reflecting it.
Most manufacture have to try to get the very last out of using different caps with a given output x-former, for the CS-1 Terry and I, we made several different x-formers up to we hit the sweet spot.
Before some else asks,
cathode bypass cap electrolytic, Nichicon made in Japan.
capsule ground reference and remote filter cap, none inductive polyester film, Cornell Dubilier made in South Korea.
X-former coupling cap polyester film Cornell Dubilier made in Hong Kong.
Capsule mixing cap, silver mica (lead version) CD made in India.
Resistors metal film 1% Aid Electronics made in Hong Kong, high impedance Ohmite made in Mexico.
Wire stranded and solid core, silver plated in a Teflon sleeve Belden made in the USA.
Connectors Binder made in Germany.
Tube socket Hydrophobic treated, CNIEC made in China
Hope that answers the question.

I think if anyone on this forum sells or imports a specific product or products it should be declared clearly in their signature. The last thing we need here is someone selling us stuff under the guise of being a regular poster. As I understand it, this forum is designed as a place to share information, not somewhere to covertly influence people's buying decisions.
Mics, your failure to disclose your interests while seeming to deride Peter's new mic purchase doesn't sit well with me. I can't speak for others but that's my take on it.

I was in no way trying to de-ride peters purchase, i was merely having an opinion. Did i offer to sell him one of my microphones? No i did Not. BTW I am not an importer, i am a manufacturer My signature was at one time attached to every post i made, for some reason now it is not, i have tried to fix it, maybe it will appear now.
I didn't realise that this thread New Mic was Peters purchase thread, i thought it was a thread where people in the know could speak their mind and offer opinions and advice to other posters. Don't let this become a suck job forum where people have to pussyfoot around worried to have their posts removed due to having an opinion on something.
If you think that everytime i post, i am trying to make a sale then you are mistaken.
I hope this finds you all well

I would like to publicly acknowledge that Ben has phoned me and personally apologised for anything offensive. I accept his apology.
He also stands by his comments and has thrown down the gauntlet. In a blind listening test if the CS-1 sounds better than his Mic he will give it to me.
So, coming to a studio near you soon......... CS-1 Vs Beezneez........
Let the games begin.

Yes you can, but i am sure you would rather one if my mic sounds better! Either way, here is the scoop, i will giv e a mic away on the night. If my mic comes out on top, then i decide who gets it, if it doesn't then it will go to peter.
We will have to establish a few rules to make it fair (open for ideas), that way all get a chance to see, hear and judge.

Welcome to the forum Ben and it is great to hear from people who actually make products. I am happy to learn more from Veteran people like yourself who wish to openly share their knowledge in forums like this. I understand that people may not have the same opinion but hey who does not like the old FORD vs HOLDEN deabtes.
BTW I do not own any Beesneez products.
Maybe next year who knows.
Cheers and Happy NEW Year to you all.
