Nagra and Soundfield

Postby Guest » Fri May 01, 2009 9:51 am

Hi all,

It's been a while since my last post due to traveling.
Now I am back from overseas and after spending a few months doing random recordings on a bits and pieces portable recording rig and another while trying to work with the results I am painfully aware how much I have leant.

One of the main things I am now very aware of is, how difficult and frustrating it can be to have substandard gear in a remote environment (even if that remote environment is a national capital).

So this brings me to my next project. I am working on a piece that will require lots of surround recordings of environments from forests to cities to choirs in a church, that will be recorded all over the place, then be played back in a non standard environment (theatre).

So after doing some research I have been looking at the Nagra VI and the soundfield st350 mic system. Both seem to have a good rep, but are thin on the ground in the circles I move in.

Has anyone used these or similar? Is there something out there in the same field that I may of missed? Any advice comments welcome.

Thanks
Tony

The "Remote Possibilities - Acoustic & Location recording" section of Gearslutz has had a lot of discussions on the Nagra VI, including use in the field and comparisons with equivalents

Have you checked out the Holophone? Also, if Nagra is out of your price range check out the Sound Devices 788. Another alternative to the Nagra would be a Zaxcom Deva
