TRM NEVE 5 min dead auction

Isn't this where the idea for the Great River loading switch came from? In the 70's someone's custom Neve, I can't remember who, had one module that sounded different to the rest and they really liked the sound. The module was checked and it turned out the transformer loading was left off, or incorrect, causing a rise at around 40Khz. It couldn't be heard directly, but it resulted in an airier top end on the module. Wish I could remember who's console it was... (actualy I just checked and it was Geoff Emerick that noticed it)
I still think output transformer termination is a matter of taste and the individual piece, plus whatever it is driving downstream. I don't like the sound of my old La3a's unterminated, however, I love the sound of my Federals unterminated. I like the top end rise on acoustic guitars. I know it's not 'to spec' but in the real world a lot of the things/sounds we now love aren't.

an air switch as stated , would only be worthwhile if you installed it , used it and like the result.
its a very academic issue other wise , seeing most microphones are trying really hard to make any noise above 15k
and none work above 40k.

what i was going to do with modules ..one day was rack them up with the vu meters neve knobs and a jlm kit for phase /di /phantom so i think your kinda there
i am not really interested in the air switch idea

the modules came out of a melborne broadcast neve i had in about 1993 , when things were a bit more sanely priced
the rest of the amps / channels are scattered to the wind

ps , while geoff tanner is much loved , many of his comments are highly debated amonst those in the loop

the build quality of his "new stuff" is interesting ... but not in the neve league

I can't remember what time the auction was, it might have been a sale within a post as I couldn't find a post. It was around end of April 08 though.

Have replaced some caps but the electros on the board are next when I find time. Thanks for sharing your bits of gear you don't need on to us turtlerockers.

just thought i'd flesh out some info for those interested in the discussion about 600ohm termination of these modules and the upside and downside
The units are now racked and ready and so I swept some tones to illustrate what the modules do with and without a 600ohm load. Note with the load on they lose overall level of about 0.25dB and i've corrected for this in the example here. You'll note that at 20kHz the difference with and without the load is about 0.3dB...you can hear this right? The unloaded module achieves a peak of around 9dB at 76kHz, this isn't shown in the illustration as my test generator is limited to 50kHz and you can see this limit as the steep rolloff just under 50kHz.
