hey its just the highest end converter ever built
it was on show at the integrate 09 trade show
the sound makes me smile every time i turn it on

it makes me laugh when ever i look at it
there are 10 world wide i think , mine is serial no 4

i am using it for audiophile type highend releases , its kinda magic

enough ..?

hey i might be looking a bit mean here with the details ,
but i dont actually spend too much time on my own forum
telling you why you should be mastering with us .
so maybe i should change my unwritten policy ..?

Hi Rick, I am frantically trying to get my wife to help me record a few more songs with me so I can see it in person...but, it is a DA converter isn't it? So, do you just use it for listening? When I say "just" I mean, does it do other stuff too?

Out of interest, Rick, what were you using prior to that TARDIS thingy?

I also had a great smile one my face when I upgraded my conversion from MOTU to Apogee, so I sort of know what you mean in a humbly lesser sort of way.

Sorry another one to squeeze as much info out of you as possible Rick : )

Excuse my ignorance as I learn. Here are some wild guesses....

1. Being a DA convertor (as someone mentioned earlier) the WEISS/MAYA box is used for monitoring only - further illustrating the adage of how critical your listening environment is to the quality of your final product.

2. Again being a DA convertor the WEISS/MAYA box is used for sending final mixes out of a DAW into a hardware based CD mastering system?

3. Both

It's a feel good machine. Me thinks it might have something to do with avoiding the "nasties" caused by the frequency limitation of the 44.1 standard of CD audio format.....and possibly adding some of the sweetness that is missing when we do not get the extended bandwidth above the threshold of normal human hearing. You know......? The stuff Mr Neve was talking about in an early edition of AT about how research has shown while we can not "hear" audio above 20kHz aprox we do perceive it's presence or absence. The studio dog will love you if you get one of these boxes......your accountant will think you're nuts!

yeah.... a big white box - not so amazing for the vibe of a room! for 250k, they could have at least supplied a wooden cupboard for it to come in. or even just finished it in wood grain laminex.....

we have a black and green paisley sheet that does wonders at hiding our TV when we don't want to look at it.
Rick, maybe you could do something similar?

gee , the reason it is not rack mountable is it weighs about 80 kg ( and the power supply weighs twice that )
and its not white , but sand blasted aluminium ( looks like a neumann mic if you understand ) and the billett aluminum is is 3.5 cm thick ( yes cm not mm !) .
it looks pretty star trek for sure
but i was never a star trekker ,
i made a nice wooden rack for it to sit on for now , and the wheels broke on day one because it was too heavy
its sitting on industrial casters now.
the weiss / mayer rack for it was just out of control in size and dimensions , but it will be at the new studio

there is a bunch of matching stuff coming along that i will feature in the new studio as well , none of it is any lighter or any smaller
just the opposite actually .
i would like to get the whole set when it comes out , but i am sure finances will dictate that i wont

weiss/maya "why is all your other stuff so light? " :)

Rick I'm amazed how good your studio is now, can't wait to see/hear the new place. Will you be keeping the current studio open while building the new one? How long do you expect it to take?
