wierd request but does anyone own any classic sci-fi soundtracks which feature theramin use???

would love to buy off anyone that does!

Lots of the 'original' Start Trek stuff used Theramin I think, for FX, etc..

You could buy one, but not one of those Jaycar Kits... they are horrible.
Any analogue synth can do a very good copy of a theramin, just a filtered saw wave & lots of portamento.. + stick some delay ... weeeeeeeooooooooaaaaaaa..

I've got a DVD of "Forbidden Planet" so it can't be that hard to find, but yes, no theramin in there.

Just out of interest? Why ?

When I was half the age I am now I used to mix in some pubs in Perth. One particular pub, Babylon, had original bands on Wednesday nights. There was this band called 'Prawns With Horns', I think they were pot heads but the dude had a theramin and it was so cool to watch. He'd use it like a conjurer, with his big Alice in wonderland mad hatter's hat. And there was a band called 'Atmosfear'. They didn't use a theramin but they had this hell catchy song and the chorus said "Iiiiiiiii wanna bonk Sharon Stone".

apparently the theremin sounds all over the portishead albums were actually a minimoog.

I havent seen any theremin playing live for ages... seemed to happen a bit at the end of the 90s. must be due for a comeback. :-)

Get a Minimoog (or something that has a decent filter) put resonance full up until it produces its own sine wave, filter using cut off frequency.

(or buy a Moog etherwave and practice hard...there is a LOT of skill involved...see movie about Clara Rockmore...bring a tear to your eye as well !)

If you have reason there is a pretty damn good refill with theremin samples.

May even be a freebie of their site.
