Vintage RTW/TELEFUNKEN/BEYER 12 CHANNEL MIXING CONSOLE in Australia

Ok here we go.
I am putting this up here for sale but am not to sure what price to list it at. I can tell you I paid over $5000 over a year ago but am happy to take offers.
Its an amazing sounding 12 channel board with Beyer input trannys and some hugely warm sounding simple but effective eq's. Similar to vintage Neumann Eq's. Siemens Sitral Faders.
Its has killer mic pre's that make an sm58 sound like Marvin Gaye back in the late 60's. Very motown'ish
The channels strips where built in the early 70's and are of west german origin. The entire console was re-built by an old tech at a German Broadcast Radio Station and was completely refurbished 3 years ago. It has two bussing sections that you can drive hard that saturate very nicely with hot signals.
Basically its 12 mic pres with serious attitude.
Its been heavily modified and had outputs on every channel.
One aux per channel and fixed bass eq and hi eq, with mid switchable eq 3.5/2.5/1.5.
Very broad, but very nice.
There are some dead caps in two channels so they will need servicing. A few other channels will also need some minor work to get them up to scratch.
The whole console powers up and works fine. I would say its 85% up and running. I use it now to record through and have no problems, but like I say it need a few caps replacing.

with: 70 cm
height: 25 cm
weight aprox. 40 - 45 kg

It breaks my heart to sell it but sometimes things just have to get passed on...

Hmmmmm almost exactly what I'm looking for. Pity I'm broke for the next 3 months. Nice console. How come everyone decides to sell the good stuff when I'm broke, never anything good going when I'm cashed up.

If you are in it for the long term then something like this console is an opportunity not to be missed. Sometimes you just have to get creative to make it happen. 12 nice quality discreet mic pres in a mixer as the hub of a DAW based studio..... the Beyer trannies if i'm not mistaken are the same brand as in some of the Helios consoles.......i'd be doing everything not to sell this if i owned it...........unless you have something to replace it of course, and i'd be doing a lot of searching out options to get it if i didn't already have something similar.

looks pretty cool. definitely the sort of thing I'd be interested in hearing. where did you find this and do you know its history?

how much gain on the mic pres?
Pads on input?
doesnt look like phantom, am i wrong?
there are a lot of connectors on rear that I'm not sure what for. rca's on the right? micro symm jack? are these just trs same as xlr input?
Module that says phono, is that line input or phono pre with RIAA curve?

how heavy?

My only quesiotn is up on the right top corner, what does that module labelled "dubtone" do? Is it some sort of reggae setting? Will it make me sound like Lee Scratch Perry mon? Jah...

Its actually the built in tea maker. Get the settings right and it makes... COOOOOOOL ICE TEA MAN.

dubtone label + some of the circuitry of helious console = definate Lee Scratch perry!

ah yes... the "dubtone".... The guy that custom rebuilt this mixer in germany renamed it the dubtone.....and yes thats what it is...
It has a "big" sound without being harsh, and makes everthing sound alive with a big stereo image. The pre's are fantastic on vocals and guitars and do wonderfully things to bass and drums to. It almost give a soft kind of compresson effect over the sounds but still leaves the dynamics. Lee Perry or King Tubby would feel very at home with this. The fact that you have 12 pres in a mixer makes for one hell of a tracking mixer. Its also fabulous for warming up those DAW mixes. I must say tho that it does way more than simply warm up the mix. It kind of excites it.
Theres are not pads on the input, it has phantom power (this was added in the rebuild), i'd think the mic pres have around 60 -70 db gain? but will check.
It has stepped attenuators for level control as well as the faders.
As for the micro sim etc rca's i have never actually used them so will ask a mate how that all works.
No output trannies on the individual outs... But I think it has output trannies on the buss outs, but I will check.
Oh, and the plasma RTW Meter is the funkiest thing you have ever seen and worth a small fortune in itself.. Very accurate..
This really is a "sound' imparting mixer. Its very unique and yes I wish I didn't have to sell it as it cost me a small fortune to ship to oz and its one of a kind.
Anyhow
Thats life.
I have used it for my last project and it just made all my dub tunes sound like they where staight out of jamaica via melbourne...

oh and I have been told by a us tech that this has similar circuitry to the older helios consoles..
I have all the rebuild specs for this (some are in german and handwritten).

The console originally came from the West German Broadcast studios.

Just did a vocal track using a vintage AKG D19 using my optro pre's that have a similar topology to this desk and the above statement is no exaggeration.

Plenty of stuff to want and have no need for/space for/reason for/doubled on etc. Trying to limit the amount of stuff I have that I don't actually use regardless of my 'desiring' it.

I'm sure we ave all had the painfull experience of having to let some great gear slip away only to be amazed that there is some great options waiting for us to dig up down the track. Ah well.
I have also made the mistake of not letting something go when i should have and lived through the pressure it created. Many a studio has gone broke because of the unnecessary SSL purchase

I'd love to bid, but this would then become my only mixer (space-issue) and then I'd not have enough channels for all my synths and fx I like to run at once (16 channels is usually just enough for me).

the mixer is not actually that big. its about 80 cm wide and 75 cm deep... So not a massive footprint on most little studios...
so go on and make me an offer....
it really would be fantastic to keep this in oz..
this has some serious mojo that needs a friendly new home....

aaaaah, damn it... I really don't see another square metre of space in here that wouldn't involve something getting bumped out.... so it'd be bye bye to my existing desk... and I really do use all of my 16:8 desk right now, and I'm not sure what I'd do without an 8 buss to mix things down for my soundcard inputs and my monitors.

if I had a real studio doing real recordings of instruments with mics, then I would have more than 1 little room, and could find a space for it..

that thing looks so awesome.... 10 hours to go!!!
