Thanks Graeme, I know what you say about the other people I work with is true. I've got more work than I can shake a stick at and all with good artists who want to work with me because they respect me and the work I do.

I guess my frustration is with clients who become friends who then treat you like you're worthless. Like I begged to work with them and what a privilege to be in their shadow. And I guess also the question is how do we go about negotiating the career path with as few of these as possible. I've worked in the industry for 10 years, freelance and making a living playing, composing, producing and recording and I've had my fair share of fallouts, screw overs, rip offs, people who don't pay etc. I'm much better at picking who I work with but I still don't know how to protect myself from being taken advantage of. I like the idea of contracts but I don't like the idea of having an exciting chat about a project and then whipping out a contract to lock it in. sounds very draconian to me.

At then end of the day, I'm proud of my reputation, my work and I like and respect who I get to work with. I just hate being taken advantage of.

If anyone out there in Turtlerockia can get hold of a copy of an article called "Good guys finish first" it has some amazing insights.

It all started from game theory around a puzzle called The Prisoner's Dilemma, and how a very simple strategy was found to win.

The long and short of it is to see life as the sum of a set of relationships, in some of which yes, you find yourself getting screwed. As Rick says, learn from it but move on. And above all, understand that the one (or more) relationship in which you got screwed is more than made up for by the relationships that work.

Oh, and get that $50 a week thing in writing ...... a gentle but steady income stream can be useful.

That's weird Rick because I got woken up at 5AM this morning by some guy hooning around our street on a forklift. Dunno what he was doing but it was bloody noisy.

Weiss Maya or 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera, ha that would be an easy one if I had the spare cash. Dunno how many exceptionally attractive women you could pull with the Maya but the Porsche would be great. Especially if you get one of those pussy magnet things installed. :)

After getting over the initial shock it could give a nice warm feeling inside. :) I prefer the traditional method though of "drinking" grog.

One of the reasons why I've just gone back to playing live in a band - beer, fun and a little coin for the fun of makin' music.. nothin' more.
Will continue to do session guitar stuff when asked, but recording career is definitely not at the same level as what I originally wanted.. Even offloaded some of my gear...
I'll engineer a few upcoming acoustic projects I'm in the pipeline for, but nothing heavy..
