Anyone know anything (Apart from the obvious) about this Audio Mixer?

How does she sound? Comparable to? Vintage or prehistoric?

Cheers,

Rca , transister 4 into 1 , germanian early transistercircuits , messy wiring ,odd gain structure, lots of transformers
looks cool as hell , its all there
should be a classic
but they are rare as, except in australia
i have seen 10 or so , bought none of them

A lot like the AWA BAR-2, made under licence from RCA using germanium transistors. Distorts nicely when you drive it. I'v used this on bass and female vox.
The shortcoming is it only has one output for the 4 preamps. Nice for mixing di and mic for the bass but i would like to get 4 outputs for this.
Any ideas?

Perhaps someone like Mixmasters/Broacast could rig up some direct outs from the pre's?

Hi Mal. I often wonder were all this gear ended up. I have heard stories of truckloads of redundant technology going to the tip etc but how much is this is fact or rumour. Some stuff would go to the tip but not useable in the signal chain?
Some went to community radio ?

Each year they gather up redundant gear and ship it all to Sydney where I believe it's all auctioned.....the has been of course equipment that had I been around earlier I would have rescued but such is life...we now try and keep what may come in useful at some stage (old formats etc) plus older gear that is still in use, especially in music recording..mics, compressors etc..though not so many old valve ones left in the system apart from some C12As, some C12s etc..plus a few newer ones like Neuman 149s, Lawson, Rode and a few ribbons which I like for jazz recording...
was also able to rescue an EMT 140 plate in Melbourne which I occassionally still use....the ancient remote is attached to our digital mixer which is a nice clash of cultures...

Ive checked out your gear list at the Iwaki Auditorium and notice you have some optro gear, the compressors if my memory is right. I wonder if avalon got their idea for the 747 from the optro comp with the wide band graphic eq. Is that the model you have?
