Mastering for Drum and Bass

Postby Darren » Tue Jul 11, 2006 6:55 am

Hi all,

I have a swag of Drum and Bass tracks that I'm hoping to get mastered and I'm looking for potential Mastering houses based in Melbourne that have experience with the genre or at least electronic music in general.

Any suggestions?

I've heard about Francois Tetaz from Moose Mastering in Richmond but thats about it.

Here are the other main options. (not in order of preference)

John Ruberto - Cristal Mastering
Adam Dempsey - Dex
Tony Mantz - Jack the Bears Delux Mastering
Martin Pullan - Edensound Mastering
David Briggs - The Production Workshop
Wez Prictor - The Finishing Post

^^thanks a stack Chris H

I'm familiar with most of you suggestions.

What I'm after though is someone who specialises in electronic music.

Is there someone like that in Melbourne.

Can any mastering engineer master any type of music to match the sonic qualities of that genre?

I tend to think (hypothesise mainly) that not all mastering engineers are created equal in all genres.

Any one care to comment / correct me?

Honestly just ring them and see. A good mastering engineer should be able to master different styles.
I normally send people to Crystal, as I have used them for years with no complaints.
Although lately most bands are trying to do things to cheap, so I end up mastering myself.

John Ruberto at Crystal - anything dance or electronic. I've worked with a lot of ME's in Melbourne and for this style of music JR is the shanitz. Or the shazizzle, whatever you use to mean really excellent.
