It's ok anybody can come to the BBQ the hot plates at the park are
ok but not great so I won't be bringing out the $50 steaks
more like coles sausages ! But byo drinks
and I will let nick work out the numbers and times with
Jim I reckon , nobody wants 100 people in their studio so there
has to be limited studio numbers but the park is nice and big
things will work out
I can only give 3 or 4 hours but that doesn't limit what everybody else does

Re: SYDNEY Turtlerock - Next one early December
Ok, so I've now officially gained the leave pass from the fun Sheriff and am good for the 5th. If, for whatever unknown family reasons I cannot attent, I will entrust the CS-1's with Rick. Even though he loves pulling stuff apart. Those of you who are travelling great distances can be assured that the CS-1 will be there.
Now, trying to compare mics is like trying to compare fruit. If we are chasing an apples for apples comparison, then the CS-1 style is an accurate reflection of reality. It doesn't make the sound larger than life, like, say, a U47, but more transparently like, say, a C12. I know Ben has clones of many classics, so whichever lens creates the most accurate image, then, that's the mic to shootout. I hope that makes sense.
Now, Rick, what's the deal with the food? Do we bring what we want to eat?
I'll post some other comments on the CS-1 in the Mics thread.
Cheers

@ Angus: it's going to be in St Peters, which is a hop skip and a jump from Newtown.
@ Tunetown: Definitely bring whatever you want to eat and drink, keeps it simple.
@ Jim Blackfoot: How many studio geeks do you think could comfortably stand around in your control room and listen to microphones for an hour?

Just for the fun of it.....( sort of ).... why not someone bring along their ACM 1200 from the famous ( infamous ) group buy. It would be interesting!

BTW everyone, if it gets too big and we wont fit, I'm happy to step out and go hang out in the park so that someone who is more interested in the difference between these two microphones than I can see it happen. I'll make a list of who seems to be coming in the morning.
Mind you... last T'rock BBQ there were 7 or 8 'attending' according to the thread, 3 or 4 of which came... is this indicative of what it will be like this time?! Just sayin'

for those who prefer to observe the sabbath amongst god's creation and/or in abject hedonism, the categories will be (A) lagers, (B) ales, (C) stouts; subcategories (i) which boutique beer represents the best value for money, (ii) which boutique beers work well with a vintage yarn, (iii) which boutique beers produce a nice 'fizz' on the bbq.

Re: SYDNEY Turtlerock - Next one early December
I think more than 12 people listening at one time will be detrimental to the test. The ambient geekish chatter would drive me out. There is a foyer & another studio area where we can chitter about the pro's & cons. Woody, if you, Sneeze & anybody else want to stay on after the other's have lost interest, you're more than welcome. The studio is very easy to operate & you can record PT/HD files for later confusion. I can supply a noisy u67 for test & a couple of u87's. Rick, I put you in charge of the weather.

No Clones here, all of my mics may have a sound that we are shooting for but we keep them very different from the vintage mics in schematic and construction.

My apologies. Without having heard your mics in person I'm going by what others have said about them. i.e this ones like a 67, 47, etc. I was pointing out that a 47 style mic might not necessarily be that best shootout mic choice.
I look forward to meeting you on the day.
Cheers

I'll bring along my ELUX251 as well. It shares the exact David Bock modified Capsule as the CS-1. It will be interesting to see how, through matched pre's, electronics can changes the sound of a capsule. If we have time that is.

You may be right. But, every capsule went through David's hands before getting to Oliver. Supposedly to meet his 251 specs.

well we could speculate about it forever - you didnt make em you bought em
so dont try and 2nd guess reverse engineer the specs from the internet , it will drive you nuts just enjoy the mics now you have finally have them i reckon
but everything that is written on the internet has a reason .. you just have to found out what the reason is

Hey guys!
Just bumping this thread up to the top because it's 2 weeks from tomorrow until the mic shootout/BBQ day. Jim, what time is good for you to kick off mic shootout?
Those who are flying in, do you need it to start after a certain time?

Hey guys,
Are all the the spots taken at the shootout? I'd like to come if there's room.
Can we have a list of participants?
Thanks

Back a page or so there is a list. I think you'll be fine, as usually about half as many people who say they'll turn up actually do

cool, I'm in for this,
I'm especially interested in hearing the mics, if there is any room for me that is
I'll definitely make it this time (unless i end up in the hospital like last time)
looking forward to meeting all the TRockers in person.
