Re: Shopping in NYC
A couple of yrs back on one of my trips I passed through New York and called in to pick up a Neumann KMR81i at Professional Sound Servcies at 311 West 43rd St.
They had some very nice stuff lying around. Could be worth a visit if you have some time.

Also, if you're down that way (over towards SOHO), I recall that Ludlow Guitars (164 Ludlow Street) had some nice stuff last time I was there.

Re: Shopping in NYC
The original TLM170 was a nice mic for me ; don't know about the newer ones. Smaller diaphragm like the U89s I think but much more likeable to my ears.
It's all good- a matter of personal taste.

Yes, the 170 is a great mic.
I've used several of the older ones and last year I picked up one of the new ones while I was in the US. Every bit as good as the old ones - same sound, in fact. Shows that they still know how to make 'em!

Re: Shopping in NYC
Agreed... TLM170's are a great vocal mic that vocalists really like using. You can hold them in your hand if you like and get right up to the grill and hammer some big notes.
So the new ones are as good as the oldies?? That's good to know.
+ Thanks for the extra recommendations of toy stores here in NYC. I'm going out hunting tomorrow. Keep em rolling if there's more....
cheers
