Australian Made Nearfield Monitors?

Just wondering if such beasties exist?

More importantly if they're any good?

There was duntech, I think they vanished off the face of the earth though.....

Check out Landmark & Orpheus. Axis - are they still around ?

Then there's the domestics...Legend, Osborn, Redgum etc etc.

Mike, who manufactures Lorantz drivers has made a prototype near field studio monitor that is very very good. Whether he decides to manufacture in quantity is an unanswered question at this stage. Give him a call if you are interested and it might help to convince him there is a sufficient demand. I can assure you it would be a monitor worth having.
He is based in Dandenong

Another Melbourne based option are Dex Audio, who have speakers made for them using imported drivers. Last i knew Adam uses them as does John Ruberto at Crystal Mastering. They look like mini Duntechs

Ok,

having done some more research I've arrived at a shortlist of what appear to be suitable candidates

Orpheus - Aurora 1
Audio Sound Labs - Minuet 8033A / AB
Landmark - LMTB
Duntech - PCL25 / PC10
Sonique - SAV 3.5

Still waiting to hear back from Dex Audio and Lorantz.

The good news is that each model appears to offer really good value for a decent pair of studio monitors.

Here's the problem, I have been unable to find anyone in Brisbane who stocks these so can't audition them let alone conduct a comprehensive comparison between the models.

So, second best option, does anyone have any experience with these speakers / can vouch for their appropriateness for nearfield studio applications?

Oh would also be good to have some idea how these compare to 'proper' studio monitors... I assume favourably but if someone wants a go at persuading me otherwise / warn at what to look out for I'd appreciate it.

Yeah aware of Joe's stuff (have hired from him before) @ $5000 a pair they're out of my range at the moment - speakers mentioned above retail $1-2k

Another option is to spend 500-800 bucks if you have to have speakers now, then save up for something more top of the range. Just a thought.

The specs / reviews of some of the speakers above suggest they would make fairly good (read NOT budget) monitors - have considered a pair of tannoy reveals but get the impression something like the Orpheus Aurora 1's would be a better option for not too much more outlay.

Unsure though - hence the question.

Appreciate your thoughts.
