U47 first timer
Yesterday was my first experience listening to a U47 fet through/Neve pre/1176 comp/ recording an acoustic guitar/singer and I had a moment. Now I truly know why everyone goes on about these mics. I was blown away by its character and I want one. I might have to start selling stuff.

Re: U47 first timer
the Fets are not that versatile though...... IME good on kik/upright bass/sometimes acoustic - and rarely vocals.
I do think there are so many modern mics that easily compete with a 47Fet these days - and easily beat it.
But the valve 47's/wagners are in another league.

Speaking of valve 47s, I recently bit the bullet and ordered a Bees Neez Tribute. When this arrives I will run it through the recently arrived Fearn VT1 preamp.
I sincerely expect I will wet myself.

Interested to get your thoughts.
Indeed he does, but I've also read a lot of glowing reviews on Gearslutz and other such places. I've also used an Arabella on a session and was mightily impressed. (That's also on my 'to-buy' list)
Oddly enough, what finally tipped me was a the recommendation of a music salesman who was not in a position to sell me one. (Ben also offers his 30 day money-back guarantee which inspires confidence).
Anyway, I hope to have it in 3-4 weeks. Shall report back accordingly.

Hi Manning,
I should come and check out your studio, I'm not too far away at Quakers Hill...

You'd be most welcome to drop by, but it's not quite finished yet. There's some more painting to do and fibreglass batts to go in yet.
Here are some pics though:
