Red Microphones

Hi all, has anyone ever tried out the RED type B microphone and capsule range, I've heard they are made or designed by/with BLUE microphones. Are they any good as they seem like an extremely versatile mic with all the different capsule choices available.

I know the BLUE bottle is a valve mic and the Red type b is class A though thats fine with me as the Blue Bottle is like $6000 and the RED is about $700, though the capsules are expensive at about $800 a pop, though I'd probably buy the Blue capsules. Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm looking for a decent vocal mic.

Yeah I think I will give em a call in the new year and test one out. If they sound great then it's a pretty simple way to get different sounds out of them, even though the capsules are expensive they are more than probably worth it.
Hey Nick whats in your lunchbox at the moment? I finally got one with an Elixir pre and an essence comp, I'm very happy with them, though I'm saving now for a P1, farout and a pair of those new EM peq's, there are so many awesome new 500 series units out or coming out.

Hey Heath

The Lunchbox has 2 x P1, EM Blue and EM Red, just ordered a API 560. I think I'm going to wear out the P1's they are just so fine.
I was going to get a Elixir but ended up getting a pair of UA LA3A for $3k a pair, I couldn't help myself. Also picked up a pair of Quad Eight MM403 (white), getting them racked-up at the moment.

Mmmmmmmmm, niiiiice. How are you liking the Daking pre/eq? I really liked that when we tested it. Gotta get 1 eventually, though after the P1, I'm keen to fill the lunchbox up first..

Still haven't got it yet, Legancy are still waiting for delivery, so I've gone cold on it.
Go P-1 you'll love it, after testing all my pres we went with the P-1 for bass.

Hey bummer I thought they had plentifull stock, oh well, was an interesting unit, maybe later. Yeah mate I'm set on the P1 without a doubt. Just gotta save a few bucks, Scotty at GBG sorted me out with the lunchbox and the modules, geez they are good guys at gbg, thier service is the best I've encountered, they actually dropped the stuff over to my house and brought mics and stuff to play with as well. Extremely helpfull.

on a slightly different tangent and getting back to red/blue mics. I just picked up a Baby Bottle from the states. Have only had a short time to give it a run but I can already tell that it's going to be a much used mic. Sounds like no other mic I have used. also a real bargain just a little over $500AUD.

I've used the Baby Blue....good all rounder mic and for the price a bargin. There are better mics out there for vocals that Luke can use.

I've given it a quick run of an open tuned acoustic doing some picking and strumming type stuff. I then threw some vocals over that with the mic. Has an interesting/nice grain to it. Haven't had enough time to really put it through it paces completely. Apparently Bob Dylan just did his latest album with the baby bottle for his vocals - I really don't know what that says about this mic tho....

I think the mic may work on some vocalists and not on others. Will have a female vocalist give it a go sometime soon and I'll fiddle some more and let you know. My first impressions are positive.

They sure do make some interesting ones, I think I'll get one of the reds later in the year, it could be a decent allrounder with a few different capsules, only 1 way to find out.
