Hi all,
I'm looking to get a pair of SDCs for recording acoustic guitar and also a bit of atmos recording for sound design.
What would you guys recommend? I don't really want to spend much over a 1K if it can be avoided.
Cheers,
Michael

In the sub 1K for a pair, I would consider the Josephson C42's (someone on here had a pair for sale a little while back) , or maybe the Oktava mk012's which I've read can be modded up a notch or two if you are handy with a soldering iron. Watch out for fake Oktava's though, if you google it you'll see the story.
Are you wanting 2 mics rather than a stereo mic? Chris P I think was talking about an AT stereo mic recently for about $700-ish that was good too. IMHO a good stereo is a godsend to save messing with setups and carrying extra stuff around if you are doing only stereo but obviously you can't separate the 2 diaphragms if you want to without a hacksaw.

Original oktavas are great for a range of things in the studio but they suffer from terrible wind noise susceptibility and I would never use mine outside even with a pop shield. Try the JZ Bt201 stereo pairs.

I was listening to shootout on GS that had the C42s and Mk012s, they both seemed nice in different ways and I've put them on the short list. Also interested in the Bees Neez Lulu fet kit but can't find much info on them.
As far as stereo mic goes, I thought about it and while it would be very handy I'm leaning toward a pair because i'd like more options when it comes to acoustic guitar.
Thanks for the warning on the fake Oktava's - I'd only heard about the fake 57s and 58s

I emailed Beesneez looking for a spec sheet. Their site is very light on detail and there doesn't seem to be much info around the net - no sound samples up either.

Can I put my vote in for Beyer MC930's.
I have used them with great success even for a main Female vocal duties.
