Afformentioned Speiden/Royer SF12 will be back from its little sojourn to Tasmania. Also have an STC4033 dual element if anyone wants to hear it.

hey Damien that's great! be good to finally catch up too
Especially interested in KM54 and 56, but B&K are completely welcome too

I should be able to organise a pair of Mojave
- this is the main comparison I wanted to hear (Mojave, KM5x, Gefell M582) - valve sdc

Positioning.. undecided
I'd be happy go with glyn johns, what do the rest of you think?

Lets keep it to SDC then, even no UM70 or C12B will be put up :-s

I could donate one M70 for a Gefell pair, but not two so not much help!
And super cool to have some 56's in there.

I guess positioning depends what people want to hear the mics doing- cymbal based OH's or more focused on a balanced overall kit.

Tim tam's will do fine Mark, but please just the original! none of this new rubbish

The other thing to consider here are preamps
I love the MCI preamps, but I wouldn't be surprised if each channel are a little different
I have an AEA RPQ also which is great, clean, stepped pots. and might be able to borrow another

But if anyone has four very closely matched pres we could discuss this also

thoughts?

I have the Neve designed Amek dual mic pre that i think would be ideal for the job. Not a "colour pre" as such. Stepped gain good metering built as a matched pair, enough clean gain to amp up a ribbon, a damn fine bit of kit.

Also I'm very interested to hear my T & C 310 mics up against some of the others to see if I'm dreaming about how good i think they are :-s

that sounds great Chris
I'm sure with that and the AEA we should be fine

The MCIs are pretty coloured, but do sound fantastic! but I guess we're after transparency

Good to know we have options

Agree about the new flavours, but the double-coated ones kill the originals. And, with nine in a packet rather than 11 (WTF?), there are fewer arguments in my household.

SO WE'RE GOOD TO GO FOR SUNDAY 3RD JUNE

Address:
10 Elgin Place, Hawthorn

*** Elgin Place is the lane behind the Burwood road shops. It is one minute walk from the intersection of Power Street and Burwood Road. It is not Elgin Street like google maps will tell you! But it runs off Elgin Street, it's the lane behind the Elgin Inn Pub

THIS IS NOW A MIC SHOOTOUT ONLY ** ALL DAY EVENT!

my friend's band is unable to play this day unfortunately, so we'll have someone playing acoustic guitar, someone playing drums and all day to experiment which works in our favour

We'll setup from 11:00am - and start listening around 2pm

Hope to see many of you there :ymparty:

I'd come but I'm in Paris at the moment.

Perhaps I should wear my TR t-shirt at the Eiffel tower and post a pic instead.

Hey Lee,
It was a good day, and lots to digest. Looking forward to hearing the files.

Ryan had a really nice touch on the kit, and it was good getting so many mics (and folks) together!

Thanks for hosting it!

Cheers,
Ray

it was like group therapy. we all share the same disease together.

the day was great, the people great, the mics were a great excuse to actually meet people, not just names on a forum post.

thank you all. I can't wait to hear the files.

anyone want to do a guitar amp mic day at pony in the future?

thanks to everyone.

Agreed. Probably the best part of the day.

Big thanks to Lee and the mic providers.

The worst part was walking out wanting a pair of almost everything we heard. :-(

Hi Damien,

Your KM56 pair sounded gorgeous this afternoon. It was a treat that you were able to bring them - along with some other fine mics!

A guitar amp mic session at Pony is a great suggestion. If the timing works out, I'd love to attend.

Cheers,
