Bareknuckle Pickups.

hey all,

does anyone have any experience with any of the Bareknuckle PIckup range?
Im interested in buing a calibrated War Pig set...but interested to see if anyone has tried them in person? or anyone local in Sydney has them installed on a guitar...

A mate of mine has black dogs, which sound so good that I have been meaning to get set for my LP for about six months. You can listen to the models on their website and they will custom wind if you are looking for a little more mid or top etc.
I have heard nothing but good reports from friends OS re customer service.

yeah, i mean....according to the internet (whatever that is worth)...the war pigs are the best thing since sliced bread that has happened to pickups in heavy music.

So far through their emails, they've been really nice and helpful.

My only other alternatives are Seymour Duncan Blackouts, and or SH-6s...do not really like EMG 81/85s.

The recordings...are a bit wierd, the sound all the "same"...i dont know if the differences between them all that subtle, or if there's a mistake in the uploads...

I think that for heavy music, ie; hi-gain, any pick-up that isn't shit is good... Hi-gain guitar sounds are much more about the amp than the pickup or guitar. I have seen nothing in my work (mixing mainly metal/core bands) to convince me to spend stupid amounts of money on a pick-up.

You can often tell what amp a guitarist is using on a recording but I doubt you'll know what pick-up or even what guitar he is using.

eg: the Seymour Duncan JB in my Yamaha is good, the stock pick-up in my LTD is shit (a bit thin and pretty prone to squeally feedback)

yeah, after watching more compoarison vids, i had a very hard time to hear that big a difference between duncans and the bare knuckles. definitely. probbaly leaning more towards sh-6s now.

never heard of them, when i had a custom build done a few years back I got mick brierly pickups. think hes based in SA and hand wires. i like em'.

I have a bridge SH-6 in my "Manta" guitar (mounted in a SD Triple-Shot) if you want to try it out in real life.

hey chris, thanks for the offer, funny u mention that, i am actually settling on a Seymour Duncan SH-6 in my bridge position! the rest of the spots with a noise cancelling Lindy Fralin Strat pickup in Neck, and probably a Fralin Pure PAF in the middle....(or a rock style Humbucker from Bareknuckle)... probably settling on the fralins tho, i wish i could get a Kinman p90....but 200 for a pickup is a bit rich, it is however one of the best so unding pickups i've ever heard....bastards

... which is why it costs $200. Its not the wire and bobbin, its the testing to get a good sound!

My Manta is a double humbucker with Duncan Jazz in the neck and Duncan Distortion in the bridge, my Dolphin is three single coil with two really old Don Lace signature pickups in neck and mid and a Duncan Vintage Rails in the neck, and then my Dorado is a single + humbucker with a lipstick in the neck and Tonerider Generator humbucker at the bridge, out of phase with each other. All sound really different from each other, and all have my somewhat odd take on how a guitar should be wired!

Still, I always remind myself that its not the pickups that make a great guitarist ....
